- Tennokai is the melee-swordmanship layer added in Whispers in the Walls (Update 35, December 2023). It rewards skilled, rhythmic play with lightning-fast Heavy Attacks that never touch your Combo Counter.
|
1. How It Works
- As you hit enemies with your melee weapon, 6% to 15% of your hits (set by the Tennokai mod you're using) trigger a flash: a Skana Prime icon appears over your HUD for about two seconds.
- While the flash is active, a Heavy Attack or Heavy Slam executes with a faster Wind-Up and does not consume your Combo Counter.
- That means you keep your melee combo multiplier (Combo Milestone, Combo Ethos, Gladiator bonuses, etc.) while still landing a boosted heavy hit every so often.
|
2. Getting Tennokai Mods
- Mentor's Legacy is granted as a completion reward of the Whispers in the Walls quest.
- Further Tennokai mods drop from Alchemy on Tyana's Pass (Mars), primarily from Rot C, or can be bought outright from the Essential Tennokai Mod Bundle in the Market.
- Later updates added more: Truth's Flame (Update 42) introduced new Tennokai options to play with.
|
3. Build Tips
- Tennokai shines on heavy-slam setups and on weapons whose heavy attacks are their identity (staves, hammers, scythes).
- Because the wind-up is accelerated and your Combo Counter is preserved, you can run Combo-duration-light builds and still spam heavies when the flash hits.
- Pair with the Modding 2.0 fundamentals: mix your Tennokai trigger rate, combo sustain, and critical chance so the flash proc matters every time.

Watch for the flash, Tenno — and strike true when the Skana burns gold!
